Cravath’s New York Office Moves to Two Manhattan West

Sophia D. Tawil is Cravath’s General Counsel. She works in Cravath’s Office of the General Counsel on internal legal, professional responsibility and risk management matters.
Ms. Tawil rejoined Cravath in 2019, after serving as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary at a public company that operated subsidiaries in the healthcare and workforce development industries. In that capacity, Ms. Tawil led the company’s legal and compliance function and was part of the senior management team responsible for the company’s strategic development.
Ms. Tawil previously worked at Cravath from 2006 through 2016. As a Senior Attorney in the Corporate Department, Ms. Tawil’s practice focused on a broad range of corporate matters including securities and banking finance, corporate governance, compliance and public company disclosure obligations, mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder and executive compensation matters. Ms. Tawil advised public and private companies in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, technology, spirits, shipping, financial services and media and entertainment.
Ms. Tawil was born in New York, New York. She received a B.A. magna cum laude from Barnard College in 1999, a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was the Editor‑in‑Chief of the Journal of International Economic Law, and a Certificate of Study in Business and Public Policy from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, both in 2006. Ms. Tawil serves on the Boards of Trustees for the Greenwich Library and the Whitby School, both in Greenwich, Connecticut.
