Reynolds

Mr. Reynolds regularly coordinates national litigation defense strategies for major corporations in business-critical litigation, including in the pharmaceutical, chemical and energy industries. He is currently serving as national resolution counsel for a global healthcare company in a major mass tort matter, providing high‑level strategic litigation advice and coordinating the company’s resolution strategy. Mr. Reynolds also serves as national resolution counsel to a chemical company in connection with litigation and regulatory inquiries in a significant mass tort matter.

Mr. Reynolds also focuses on high-profile investigations involving civil, regulatory and criminal allegations across multiple industries. His representative matters include conducting an investigation for a major media company, as well as representing a multinational European company in connection with multiple investigations involving a variety of government entities.

Mr. Reynolds has represented major financial institutions in a variety of matters. As lead counsel in over 50 residential mortgage‑backed securities lawsuits around the country for one client, he eliminated approximately $14.3 billion in claims and helped obtain a landmark decision concerning the statute of limitations for cases under New York’s Martin Act. He also successfully represented two banks in contract and tort actions in state court in Delaware, New York and Texas arising from a failed multibillion‑dollar merger and secured the dismissal of a Fortune 20 bank from a securities fraud suit concerning collateral debt obligations. He recently secured for a major bank the dismissal of breach of contract and fraud claims relating to the financing of a substantial acquisition.

Mr. Reynolds has also handled high‑profile antitrust litigation. He secured a $750 million settlement for a major technology company in a suit concerning internet operating systems and represented another technology company in litigation alleging monopolization of markets for computer hardware, which was dismissed. Mr. Reynolds also helped obtain a summary judgment victory for a medical device company in antitrust litigation concerning catheters used in cardiac mapping.

Among his other matters, Mr. Reynolds secured for one baseball team the dismissal of a consolidated purported class action relating to alleged electronic sign stealing brought by daily fantasy sports contest participants, which was affirmed on appeal; obtained a favorable settlement for a solar panel manufacturer in a securities class action relating to solar modules; was part of the trial team that obtained judgments in favor of an acclaimed entertainment company in copyright and trademark litigation; obtained summary judgment in favor of a major entertainment company in a breach of contract dispute over the broadcasting of certain films; and obtained a precedent‑setting ruling on behalf of two pharmaceutical companies in qui tam litigation over alleged pricing misrepresentations.

Mr. Reynolds has been consistently selected as one of Lawdragon’s “500 Leading Lawyers in America” and has been named to its “500 Leading Litigators in America” list. He was recognized by The Legal 500 US for appellate work, general commercial disputes, financial services litigation and securities litigation. Benchmark Litigation has repeatedly named Mr. Reynolds a “Litigation Star” in the New York area. He was also named to The Best Lawyers in America for securities and commercial litigation, as well as Super Lawyers for securities litigation.

Mr. Reynolds is a member of the New York City Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

Mr. Reynolds was born in New York City. He received an A.B. magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1990, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as Editor‑in‑Chief of The Dartmouth. As a Keasbey Scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge University, from 1990 to 1992, he received an M.Phil. in medieval history. Mr. Reynolds received a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1995, where he was Executive Editor of The Yale Law Journal. Following graduation, he served as a law clerk to Hon. Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Reynolds guest lectured on legal history at Columbia University. He co‑authored Intellectual Property Law Answer Book, published by the Practising Law Institute, which is currently in its ninth edition.

Mr. Reynolds joined Cravath in 1996 and was elected a partner in 2002. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the Litigation Hiring Partner. Mr. Reynolds is a partner liaison to the LGBTQ+ Affinity Group.
