Cravath’s New York Office Moves to Two Manhattan West
Jenny X. Zhang focuses her practice on representing and advising U.S. and multinational companies, their boards of directors and management in connection with government and internal investigations into allegations of accounting fraud, securities fraud, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), insider trading and various employment, corporate governance and compliance issues.Ms. Zhang represents clients in both public and non‑public matters before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Justice (DOJ) and other federal, state and local regulatory agencies. She also regularly conducts independent investigations on behalf of boards and board committees in response to shareholder litigation demands, whistleblower complaints and requests from auditors.
Ms. Zhang also maintains a robust practice advising both institutional and individual clients and handling litigation in employment‑related matters, including executive or employee separations, alleged wage and labor violations, claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation or other workplace misconduct, and other highly sensitive personnel matters. She provides up‑to‑date guidance to employers regarding recent legal developments and assists clients in the creation and updating of their policies and procedures. In addition, she advises clients regarding employment, compliance and risk‑management issues arising in connection with mergers and acquisitions or other corporate transactions.
Ms. Zhang’s clients have included Novartis AG, Crown Castle International Corp., INEOS Group, Warner Media, Eros Media World PLC, White Mountains Insurance, Mylan N.V. and Blackstone’s global credit business, as well as special committees of the boards of directors of Twitter Inc., General Electric Company, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Prudential Financial and MetLife, and audit committees of the boards of directors of The Hartford Financial Services Group and CyrusOne Inc.
Ms. Zhang devotes substantial time to pro bono service and has worked extensively with Fresh Air Fund, Film at Lincoln Center, Sanctuary for Families and patients at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital who need legal services related to their medical care. She also was a member of the Cravath team that successfully secured a substantial monetary settlement on behalf of an Innocence Project exoneree who spent nearly three decades wrongfully incarcerated for crimes he did not commit.
Separate from her external and pro bono matters, Ms. Zhang works closely with Cravath’s Office of the General Counsel on various internal legal, professional responsibility and employment matters. In addition, Ms. Zhang frequently speaks to student groups on topics related to the Firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and previously served as the Firm’s representative on the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and as a co‑lead of the Firm’s Asian/Pacific Islander affinity group.
Ms. Zhang was born in Beijing, China. She received a B.A. with distinction from Yale College in 2006 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2009, where she was a McKay Scholar and staff editor of the Journal of Law & Business.
Ms. Zhang is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York.
She joined Cravath in 2009 and was named of counsel in July 2023.
