Douglas D. Broadwater retired from Cravath’s Litigation Department in December 2009. His practice areas encompassed antitrust, contracts, intellectual property, securities and corporate governance.
Mr. Broadwater’s Cravath practice focused on litigation and trials involving antitrust (monopoly and multiparty conspiracy), government investigations, international and domestic arbitrations on contract disputes, securities acts claims (takeover and inadequate disclosure), trade secret and proprietary information disputes, trademark enforcement and corporate governance matters.
Mr. Broadwater was born in Preston, Minnesota. He received an A.B. cum laude from Harvard University in 1966 and a J.D. cum laude from Columbia Law School in 1969, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a Shearman Scholar and an Editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems.
Mr. Broadwater joined Cravath full‑time in 1971 and spent a year while an associate in the Firm’s London office. He became a partner in 1978.
