New York University Board of Trustees Announces Election of Evan Chesler as Chair‑Designate

On January 30, 2023, the New York University Board of Trustees announced the election of Cravath’s Evan R. Chesler as Chair‑Designate. A trustee since 2006, he is currently a vice‑chair and a co‑chair of the Board’s Development Committee. In announcing the news of his appointment, NYU noted that he “has been an involved and invaluable member of the NYU community for more than five decades,” and commended his “respected presence on the Board.” Evan’s term as Chair will begin on September 1, 2023.

In addition to Evan’s Board service, he serves as chair of NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science Board, a member of the NYU School of Law Foundation, an adjunct professor at NYU School of Law, founder and chair of the NYU Lawyer Alumni Mentoring Program, and a member of the Board of Advisors for the Center on Civil Justice. He also serves on the NYC 2025 Advisory Committee, a program set up under the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at NYU to consider and propose means to enable the economic recovery and growth of New York in a post‑COVID world.

Evan received an A.B. from New York University in 1970, and a J.D. cum laude from New York University School of Law in 1975, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
