Cravath’s New York Office Moves to Two Manhattan West
On February 11, 2020, Cravath was featured by Law360 as a “Competition Practice Group of the Year,” for its work on high‑stakes antitrust litigation, including its role in ending a two‑year suit between Apple and Qualcomm with a settlement that “exemplified how Cravath has successfully fought to protect some of the biggest businesses in their respective marketplaces.”
The litigation was highly complex, involving multiple jurisdictions and dozens of claims and defenses. But, as Partner Richard J. Stark explained, the Firm’s approach was to focus on straightforward contract claims and the simple theme that “a deal is a deal.”

On April 16, 2019, Cravath client Qualcomm announced an agreement with Apple to dismiss all litigation between the two companies worldwide, with a settlement that includes a payment from Apple to Qualcomm. The companies also reached a global six‑year license agreement, effective as of April 1, 2019, including a two‑year option to extend, and a multiyear chipset supply agreement.

On September 11, 2019, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled in favor of Cravath client Sabre Holdings Corporation (“Sabre”) in an antitrust suit brought by US Airways. Citing the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2018 decision in Ohio v. American Express, which Cravath successfully litigated, the Second Circuit vacated a jury verdict against Sabre that had awarded $15 million in damages to US Airways, and remanded for a new trial.

On June 25, 2018, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of Cravath client American Express Company (“AmEx”) in Ohio, et al. v. American Express Co., et al., one of the most significant government antitrust enforcement actions in history.
