Cravath Data Privacy and Security Review: H1 2023

On July 7, 2023, Cravath published the inaugural edition of its Cravath Data Privacy and Security Review newsletter, which provides an overview of U.S. state and federal legislative and regulatory developments, alongside U.S. and global enforcement trends and takeaways, in the data privacy and security field for the first six months of 2023. The Review provides an update on recently enacted privacy laws in states including California, Colorado and Connecticut, and on actions by the New York Department of Financial Services that reflect the agency’s continued emphasis on strong enforcement of its cybersecurity regulations. This edition also highlights heightened focus on cybersecurity and privacy‑related enforcement at federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission, examines how the Video Protection Privacy Act has started to once again become an active source of litigation in the U.S., and provides global enforcement updates from Brazil, China and Europe.
